At October’s meeting of the Cabinet, Hounslow Council’s Labour Administration approved Opportunity Hounslow: Business Case for Growth, an ambitious plan that sets the stage for economic renewal and long-term prosperity in the borough. This forward-thinking strategy goes hand in hand with the new Labour Government’s razor sharp focus on economic growth – a strategy designed to create jobs, attract investment, and build a thriving economy that benefits residents and businesses alike.

Hounslow, a global borough home to over 300,000 residents and 15,000 businesses, plays a key role in the UK’s economy. Earlier this year, Hounslow Council launched Opportunity Hounslow, Gateway to London, Gateway to the World, which allowed the Council to share its ambition for Hounslow and create a specific domain to share these ambitions with developers, investors – along and with local residents and business. Opportunity Hounslow: Business Case for Growth starts to go into far more detail on what needs to be done, why and what the role of the Council is, as lead place maker.

Deputy Leader of Hounslow Council and Cabinet Member for Assets, Regeneration and Development, Cllr Tom Bruce said:

“Hounslow is more than just a name. It is a vibrant borough of many opportunities – a borough connected by historic towns such as Feltham, Heston, Brentford, Isleworth and Chiswick, which each have their own strong unique identities but combined by a strong sense of community and diverse industries. It is also a huge contributor to the UK economy, with Heathrow right on the doorstep and a wide range of businesses welcoming potential investors as a gateway to London and to the World.

“Now is the time to put Hounslow back on the map. We are one of the first Local Authorities in the UK to set up a borough-wide strategy on how to achieve our local plan for higher prosperity and economic growth – a plan which will shape a brighter future for Hounslow, and have a huge positive impact on all of our residents. These are not just empty words. This is the beginning of our action plan to continue to create a more vibrant, ever thriving borough – we do this by creating jobs, supporting businesses, and building a stronger sense of place for our communities.

“National renewal is a key aim of the new Labour Government, after 14 years of Conservative decay, and Hounslow is willing to play its part locally for more growth, continuing to lead the way as Gateway to London and to the World in setting a new and high standard for local development.”
